General Information for Open Water Students
The Open Water Scuba program consists of pool sessions and Four (4) open water dives in Puget Sound. In addition, each participant must complete the PADI Learning program -- either eLearning or Lectures. OK, we all know that! So what is the schedule?
Pool Sessions (depending on length of class, may be combined)
First Session -- Mask, Fin and Snorkel, aka, Skin Diving, skills -- how to clear your snorkel, how to do a surface dive, how to come up safely; In addition, the 300 yard swim using Mask/Fin/Snorkel and the 10 minute water tread
Second Session -- Mask flood and clear; Regulator Recovery; Breathing from another's regulator; Weight Check; Hand signals; Inflating/deflating the Wing; Continue with snorkel/scuba skills; practice!!

"Mask Flood and Clear" -- this video shows how to flood and clear your mask while maintaing possition in the water
"Regulator Recovery" -- this video shows how to find a regulator that has been kicked out (fallen out) of your mouth
"Weight Check" -- this video shows how to do a weight check at the surface
Third Session -- put gear together, do buddy checks; Skills to be taught -- Giant Stride; Proper descents with ear clearing; Mask remove and replace; Orally inflating Wing; Emergency Disconnect of Low Pressure Inflator; practice!!
"Giant Stride" -- how to do a Giant Stride entry
"Descent" -- how to do a "SORTD" (Signal, Orient, Replace Regulator, Time, Descend) vertical descent
"Ascent" -- how to do a horizontal, controlled ascent -- note, diver on left is in a dry suit and vents from his suit from his wrist
Fourth Session -- put gear together, do buddy checks; Skills to be taught/reviewed -- Giant Stride; Proper descents with ear clearing; Controlled Emergency Swimming Ascent (CESA); Alternate Air Source Use; Neutral Buoyancy; Cramp Removal and Tired Diver Tow; No mask swimming; practice!!
"CESA" -- How to do the CESA exercise
"No Mask Exercise" -- Breathing without having a mask
Fifth Session -- put gear together, do buddy checks; Skills to be taught/reviewed -- Giant Stride; neutral buoyancy; hovering; remove/replace weights and scuba unit underwater and on the surface; practice!!
"Doff and Don Gear" -- taking your gear off and putting it back on
"Hovering and Neutral Buoyancy" -- This is what control looks like!
Sixth Session -- PRACTICE all that has been learned.
